Balloon Hats

Who doesn't enjoy balloon hats? Okay, there're probably a lot of people who don't enjoy balloon hats - still, this is a fun site. The site boasts interviews with "balloon twisters", a gallery of balloon hats from all over the world, news about the world of balloon hats, and all sorts of other balloon hat information. Wear a balloon hat today!

All Your Base Are Belong To Us

Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the last year or two, you've probably heard or seen references to the phrase "all your base are belong to us." But what does it mean? Apparently, it all started in a Sega Genesis home video game released in the 1990's. The game's intro was poorly translated from Japanese to English and contains several grammatical errors, including the afore-mentioned sentence "All your base are belong to us." For whatever reason, pop culture en masse picked up on the goof and started incorporating it into fake billboards, signs, and photos. This website explores the origins of the phrase, most of which I've already explained here. The best part of the site, though, is a collection of over 36 of the best uses of the phrase, including a mock Time magazine cover. All your base are belong to us, indeed.

Messages

The US government has a new website, http://www.ready.gov/. It's another attempt at scare mongering in the style of the old "duck and cover" advice after WWII. The fun thing is that these pictures are so ambiguous they could mean anything! This site offers a few new interpretations.

Wonder Woman

While we've explored Wonder Woman before in Weird Websites, never have we reviewed a site quite so dedicated to the Amazon queen as this one. This site is filled with everything you ever wanted to know about Wonder Woman but were afraid to ask, including fan clubs, links to other sites, profiles, fan art, and a section devoted to TV's Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter. Best of all, when you join the fan club (which is free) you'll receive a special club membership card that'll get you into all sorts of secret meetings at fan conventions. Okay, not really, but the card still looks cool.

Miss Abigail Advice

Who better to ask for advice than someone who's been around the block a few times? For better or worse, Miss Abigail's Time Warp Advice website fits the bill. Just click "Questions & Answers" and look for something closely resembling your dilemma. Do you think you should eat more vegetables? Abigail answers with quotes from the 1940 book "What Foods Can Do For You." The advice is, of course, wildly out of date. But what can you expect? Miss Abigail is, after all, an old-fashioned kind of gal. Just don't look for advice on setting up your VCR!

Ananova

Ananova is a straight British news site with a twist - the news is read by a virtual anchorwoman. While this green-haired beauty's speech pattern isn't much better than the computer in the 1980's movie "War Games," it's kind of cool to see the news read by a virtual person. You can choose your type of news: regular, light, quirky, and sporty. Once you choose, Ananova will read the news (accompanied by photos and video) in her own inimitable style. If you're tired of The Naked News (www.nakednews.com) but aren't ready to go back to your local TV news heads, give Ananova a try. She won't disappoint.

The Fifth Dimension

I've been a fan of Rod Serling's original Twilight Zone since I was a little kid. That said, this site is an excellent source of material for folks like me. The site includes 485 pages, 3,886 pictures, and 62 sound files, all related to the Twilight Zone. Moreover, there's a message board, quizzes, and even a guide to the Twilight Zone DVD's to keep you busy for many spooky nights to come.

The Loch Ness Monster Cam

Who knew that the Loch Ness Monster was included in the plethora of cams on the Web? In addition to the live cam, the website also offers a listing of books related to the monster, news about the phenomenon, information on the official fan club, and more! If you're fascinated with this Scottish sea dinosaur or just want to try to catch a glimpse of something on the camera, this is a must-visit site. And rumor has it that a Bigfoot cam is just around the corner.
